Xiangning Li

Xiangning Li is a PhD Candidate in the Department of History at the University of Chicago, where she is completing her dissertation on runaway people, as well as famine relief efforts, during and after China’s Great Famine in the 1950s and 1960s. Her research interests include gender, migration, bureaucracy, and law. A former journalist who transitioned into scholarship and a sociologist who became a historian, Xiangning is the author of several public-facing essays and peer-reviewed articles on politics and society in post-1949 China.
